Lee Greenwood is Honored to Be Performing at the Inauguration

There’s been a lot of talk about the people who turned down the chance to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration, but what about the ones who are thrilled for the opportunity?  Well, “The Hollywood Reporter” talked to Lee Greenwood, who’s part of Thursday’s “Make America Great Again!  Welcome Celebration.”  He was asked for his “reasoning” behind accepting the offer . . . as if he needed to explain himself.  Anyway, he stood up to it, saying, “It’s not just about the Trump event, it’s about the change of power in D.C. “I think whenever you’re asked to do a Congressional appearance, it’s in bad taste to say no.  It isn’t political.  I consider it a great honor.  It’ll be a wonderful moment for my career, but also for the citizens who’ll be watching it on television worldwide.”  It’s not like he’s getting bombarded with bad vibes.  He said, quote, “I’m getting tremendous, positive feedback from everybody through my website, Facebook, whatever.  We have a new president-elect, and we’re going to support him.”  He was also asked to comment on Broadway star Jennifer Holliday, who canceled her appearance because of pressure from fans.  He said, “I think that’s a mistake.  [You’re] going to sing for the President, my gosh.  “I didn’t work the campaign, she didn’t work the campaign.  This is basically an invitation to go to Washington, D.C., and be a part of this celebration.  I’m sorry she made that choice.”  This will be Lee’s fourth time playing a Presidential inauguration.  He performed for Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush.  That goes with the territory when you record something as classic as God Bless the U.S.A.
