The wave of cold Arctic air that gripped much of the nation over new year’s weekend will continue for the next five days.

Wind Chill Advisory continues through noon Tuesday, but temperatures are not expected to rise above the freezing mark until Sunday.

Todd County schools closed on Tuesday due to the cold and a warming shelter at New Providence United Methodist Church in Clarksville is expected to remain open for most of the week.

All of the mid-state and southern Kentucky is experiencing dangerous wind chill values, raising the threat of frostbite and hypothermia.

The National Weather Service in Nashville advises wearing plenty of layers of clothing to minimize exposed skin. Homeowners should also take precautions to keep water pipes from freezing.

The extended forecast shows temperatures not rising above freezing until Sunday.
