Fort Campbell, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It was cold with snow on the ground Sunday, but warm hearts prevailed as 165 soldiers with the 86th Combat Support Hospital (86th CSH) were welcomed home from their nine-month deployment to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield.
The unit was greeted by family, friends, and comrades and welcomed by Major General Andrew Poppas, Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, who said the 86th CSH set a new standard of excellence, as is always expected and is always done. Welcome home, your families await you, take pride in the work that you have done.
Colonel Bruce Syvinski, 86th CSH Commander said the unit provided staffing for a medical treatment facility with surgical capability based in Kuwait and provided surgical teams that went on missions around the region. Some of the unit’s work involved troop medical clinics, a preventative medicine detachment, a dental detachment, a team offering optical health care and a veterinarian service detachment.
The aircraft carrying the soldiers landed at Nashville International Airport where they boarded buses for the last leg of their trip to Fort Campbell. It was the 12th deployment for the unit since its activation in 1944 and will be its last as the 86th CSH. The unit will transform to the 86th Field Hospital in April of this year.
