Cumberland River in Clarksville nears flood stage as advisory continues

A Flood Advisory continues for the Cumberland River at Clarksville affecting Montgomery County Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, the river reached 42.8 feet Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will continue to rise to 43.1 feet in the afternoon. Flood stage is 46 feet.

The Flood Advisory continues through 11 a.m. Thursday.

At 43 feet, water continues to inundate low lying areas along the river, including agricultural areas, access points, portions of McGregor Park on North Riverside Drive, and low lying areas of industrial property on Zinc Plant Rd. Water also backs up adjacent tributaries, including Bartons Creek, Red River, West Fork Red River, and Yellow Creek.

Rainfall will develop and spread back across the mid state today and continue into tonight. Rainfall amounts will average around one half inch south to less than one quarter inch north.
