CLARKSVILLE,TN – The Bi-County Solid Waste Management Transfer Station on Highway Drive is getting some improvements this week designed to get traffic off of Highway Drive and improve traffic flow through the pit area.

The Transfer Station was built in 1974, and traffic has outgrown the site, Bi-County Director Mark Neblett told Clarksville Now.

The improvements, costing about $100,000, will involve repaving, making the site larger and adding more recycling boxes, he said.

“We’ll stripe it and line it to make it easier to get in and out, and to get in and out faster,” Neblett said.

The pit area, located at 1230 Highway Drive, will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 11, through Thursday, Jan. 13, for the improvements. The convenience center behind the pit building will remain open for bagged household waste and recycling only.

The area is expected to re-open on Friday, Jan. 14, at 7 a.m. if there are no construction or weather delays.

St. B/Arcata Center

The St. Bethlehem/Arcata Center at 3801 Guthrie Highway is also getting improvements this week.

Neblett said a second compactor is being added and the fence will be moved to make more room for traffic flow.

Correction: An earlier version of this article misnamed Arcata. The article has been updated.
