CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – West Creek High football is entering its first season under head coach Michael Booker, and as he takes over the Coyotes program, the team looks to build a culture of winning for years to come. Since arriving in Clarksville, the one word that he wants to stick in this program is “family.”

Booker decided to come to the Clarksville area for a number of reasons, including his interest in coaching high school football in Montgomery County, as well as his family that is part of the local community. Leading the campaign to get him to Clarksville was his brother, Dion Booker, who will coach safeties and special teams for West Creek.

Though his first few weeks in Clarksville, Booker has loved the area. “I love that I get to coach with my younger brother,” Booker told Clarksville Now. “Playing football, we were four years apart, so I always missed being on the same team. Me and my wife really love Clarksville, and we feel a great family atmosphere at West Creek.”

Booker said he wants to add to the family atmosphere at West Creek, and that all begins with the football program.

“We want to build a family here within the program first,” Booker said. “Winning starts before you ever take the field, including building relationships with kids and parents. The community needs to know that we are more than just a football team.”

Some coaches start with an elaborate message for the players, trying to sell them on the vision they have for the program. Booker’s message on the other hand is simple: Winning is fun.

“Winning is fun. Friday doesn’t predicate whether you won or lost,” Booker said. “We’re going to spend the whole week winning in practice; we’re going to win in the classroom; we’re going to win with awesome parent support. Friday night is just going to be a part of our culture, but we are going to start winning way before Friday.”
