CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kirkwood High running back Josiah Claybrooks has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week after rushing for over 200 yards on the ground in a must-win game against Kenwood High.

The Cobras and Knights faced off last week to decide who would keep their playoff hopes alive, while getting their third district win of the season. In the end, Kirkwood High was the one to come away with a 29-20 victory.

Claybrooks played a crucial role in the Cobra’s offensive attack and when it was all said and done, the sophomore running back scored three touchdowns on the night and posted a total of 265 yards on 33 carries.

Claybrooks told Clarksville Now that his performance felt great. He added that his team needed somebody to step up for a chance to keep their playoff hopes alive, so he decided he would be the player to do so.

The running back said he looks forward to carrying the workload during the Cobras upcoming game against West Creek High, which will decide who clinches the fourth and final playoff spot in District 6A Region 7.

According to Kirkwood High head coach Chad Watson, Claybrooks has compiled a season total of 81 carries for 540 yards and 3 touchdowns. In addition, the running back has averaged 6.7 yards per carry.

Watson went on to tell Clarksville Now that the number one thing that makes Claybrooks such a special talent has been his toughness throughout the season.
