FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The last of the Vietnam War-era barracks at Fort Campbell are about to see upgrades, thanks to funding approved this week in Congress.

Tennessee and Kentucky legislators were able to secure $73 million for the renovation of the barracks, which house the 1st Brigade Combat Team, according to a news release from the Campbell Strong Defense Alliance. Those are the last of the VOLAR-style barracks on Fort Campbell.

“This is exciting news, and we are thrilled to know that this additional funding will allow for the acceleration of renovations of these barracks,” said Kelli Pendleton, president/CEO of the Campbell Strong Defense Alliance. “We are grateful to our lawmakers from both Tennessee and Kentucky who understand the critical role that Fort Campbell plays in global defense and who work hard to ensure that our soldiers have the resources they need to be successful.”

Pendleton noted how beneficial it is for the region to have legislators in important roles, and on both sides of the state line. “When it comes to Fort Campbell, the state line can often prove to be beneficial.”

Senators representing Kentucky are Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Rand Paul, and representing Tennessee are Sens. Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty. Fort Campbell also resides in the House districts for Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee and Rep. James Comer of Kentucky.
